Iligan Writers Workshop conducted
Ten writing fellows qualified for the Iligan National
Writers Workshop (INWW). They are: (Luzon) Conchitina R. Cruz, fiction;
Christopher E. Calulig, poetry; (Visayas) Peter Solis Nery, poetry; Genevieve
L. Asenjo, poetry; Joseph D. Espino, poetry; Hope S. Sabanpan-Yu, poetry;
(Mindanao) Margarita Marfori, fiction; Jaybee Arguillas, fiction; Ceres
Yap Chai Abanil, poetry; and, Marinela C. Mirasol, poetry.
Lecturers.panelists were: Merlie M. Alunan, Rosario Cruz
Lucero, Ricardo M. de Ungria, Erlinda Kintanar Alburo, Leoncio Deriada,
Jaime An Lim, Anthony Tan, Steven P.C. Fernandez, and INWW Director, Christine
Godinez-Ortega. Keynote lecturer is Dr. Gemino H, Abad.
The wrokshop-conference was held April 27 to 30. The INWW
is supported by the NCCA and the MSU-IIT.

IPAG announces 1998 season
Southern Philippines' leading repertory company, the
Integrated Performing Arts Guild (IPAG) has announced its repertory and
training offerings for this year. Its "Tales From Mindanao" saga continues
with new works that will be toured during the whole year. "Tales" is also
set for international
performances in North America and Europe. Datu
Matu, its offering for the Centennial, will tour in November.
A new play premieres in September in Iligan. New dance works will be presented
in a recital in May 3 before the "Tales" kick-off performances in May 29
and 30. Courses in dance and theater will also be offered starting March
23.

Workshop Recital in summer
The IPAG culmoinated its dance and theater classes in
a recital entitled Vignettes 3. The show was held May 3 at the MSU-IIT
gym. This culminated intensive courses in the integrated theater arts,
children's and beginners ballet, street jazz, and production apprenticeship.
Director's Forum
The Marawi Arts Council and Sining Kambayoka conducts
a forum of Mindanao directors starting June 21 in the MSU campus, Marawi
City. The forum puts together the various directors' "schools" and aesthetics
in Mindanao in preparation for the Mindanao Theater Festival (Mindulani)
set late this year.

IPAG
will hold auditions for applicants to its 1998 season. Successful applicants
will be given scholarships which privileges include free tuition, monthly
allowances, and other benefits. Please come in person to the IPAG office
during enrolment. Twenty five slots are available.
